30th Annual Governor’s Arts Awards

The Arizona Governor’s Arts Awards, the largest annual statewide gathering of arts and culture supporters, celebrates a milestone in 2011 with the 30th anniversary presentation recognizing extraordinary contributions of artists, arts organizations, businesses, educators and individuals to the quality of life in our state.

Presented by Arizona Citizens for the Arts, the Arizona Commission on the Arts and the Office of the Governor, the 30th Annual Governor’s Arts Awards will select honorees in six categories on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at the newly renovated Herberger Theater, 222 E. Monroe.

The 6th annual Shelley Award honoree also will be recognized for advancing the arts through strategic and innovative leadership to create and support public policy beneficial to the arts in Arizona. The award is named for Shelley Cohn, who spent more than 25 years as executive director of the Arizona Commission on the Arts.

Because the Governor’s Arts Awards represents a commitment to Arizona arts by our state’s highest elected officials, the Honorable Jan Brewer, Governor of Arizona, is the Honorary Chair of this event. In special recognition of the 30th anniversary, she will be joined by an Honorary Host Committee of previous award recipients and past Governors.

The celebration begins at 5:30 p.m. with a silent auction, hors d’oeuvres and refreshments in the magnificent Herberger Theatre Center lobby. Honorees will be recognized at the Oscar-style ceremony at 7 p.m., followed by a dessert reception at 8 p.m.
